Author: Austin Nass
This documentation provides the necessary information on how to install and configure the Azure VPN Client for remote access to OnePoint BFG resources.
Azure VPN Client Installation
- Open the Microsoft Store on the user’s computer.
- Search for Azure VPN Client.
- Select Azure VPN Client published by Microsoft and click Install.
- Wait for the installation to complete.
Assigning VPN Access
- Connect to blkly-file3.bleakley.local using Remote Desktop Connection and your administrator credentials. If working remotely, connect to the Azure VPN first.
- Open Server Manager.
- Select Tools in the upper-right corner and choose Active Directory Users and Computers.
- Locate the user account requiring VPN access.
- Open the user’s account properties and navigate to the Member Of tab.
- Add the user to the appropriate Azure VPN Security Group.
- Select Apply and OK.
- Allow sufficient time for group membership to synchronize. Approximately 20-30 minutes.
Importing the VPN Configuration
- Launch the Azure VPN Client application.
- Select the “+” icon in the lower-left corner of the application.
- Choose Import.
- Browse to and select the Bleakley.xml configuration file.
- Complete the import process. The configuration file is located at Z:\Shared\Technology\IT\VPN.
- The user will then have to sign in with their OnePointBFG credentials.
Connecting to the VPN
- Open the Azure VPN Client.
- Select the Bleakley connection profile.
- Click Connect.
- Complete the Microsoft authentication prompt if required.
- Verify that the connection status displays Connected.
Troubleshooting
Connection fails after setup. Verify the user has successfully signed into their OnePointBFG account during VPN import.
Cannot locate Bleakley.xml. Confirm access to Z:\Shared\Technology\IT\VPN. If remote, you must already be connected to VPN.
Group membership not taking effect. Wait the full 20-30 minutes for Active Directory synchronization. Do not retry connection attempts before this time has elapsed.
